Axiom Learning is only as good as its teachers - which is why we are so selective in hiring. Fewer than 1 in 200 applicants to Axiom Learning are hired and all of our team members are passionate about our mission of improving global education and dedicated to making it happen. All of our instructors hail from top universities, have great personalities, are phenomenal teachers and, most importantly, are completely dedicated to ensuring their students succeed!
My name is Shahzad and I'm thrilled that you are considering working with us here at Axiom. Joanne and I have three awesome kids of our own and often found that the opportunities available to us outside of school didn't keep them challenged in what they were good at and didn't offer enough support in areas where they needed help. We spent millions of dollars and put together a world-class team to figure out the best way to work with kids. We founded Axiom Learning as an Academic Accelerator with the hope of helping kids everywhere, unleash the greatness that we know is within every one of them. As parents ourselves, we are committed to providing your kids with everything we would want as parents: The best teachers, cutting-edge teaching techniques and fully customized experiential learning.
Before founding Axiom Learning, I used to be a an investment professional, consultant and entrepreneur where I got to work on over $40 billion worth of deals. I also taught at Harvard Law School and graduated from Harvard Law School (JD), Harvard's JFK School of Government (MPA) and Columbia University (Bachelor's degrees in Political Science-Economics and Biochemistry). I was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum (I was mostly thrilled to still be considered Young!) and have been interviewed by the BBC, Bloomberg, the Financial Times and the Washington Post, among others. When I'm not working with families at Axiom Learning, I love spending time with my family, reading and sometimes taking my (rapidly declining) vertical jump to the nearest basketball court.
Greetings! I'm Joanne, and I'm so excited to welcome you to Axiom Learning! I have had a life-long love of learning and, since founding Axiom Learning, Shahzad and I have strived to make it a place where we would want our own kids to be: A place where every student who walks in feels understood, empowered, inspired and effective.
Prior to Axiom Learning, I trained as a physician in Virginia and got my Master's in Public Health from Harvard with a strong focus on humanitarian relief. As a physician, I had the joy of co-founding Doctors Worldwide, a medical relief organization which still has operations in over 13 countries. When I haven't been at Axiom or with my three energizing boys, I have had the opportunity to teach chemistry at the base of Mount Kenya, do health education in the middle schools of Washington, DC, health care reconstruction in Sarajevo, entrepreneurship in Cambridge, algebra in Kuala Lumpur and salsa dancing in Richmond. I can't wait to continue my journey with you and your family!
My name is DanThuy Chu, and education reform is my passion. I graduated from Harvard College with a degree in Sociology and a focus on immigration and education. After graduating, I simultaneously proceeded to complete a two-year commitment with Teach For America while also earning my Master's in Secondary Education from Johns Hopkins University School of Education. Working as a classroom teacher truly solidified my passion for teaching and education reform. As a classroom teacher, I had the pleasure to work with wonderfully talented students, collaborate with hard-working individuals, and gain valuable insight into the current education landscape. Axiom Learning has been a natural home for me after my classroom experience as our educational philosophy emphasizes identifying exactly where our students need support so we can help them grow where they need the most support - exactly what we need in the classroom setting. Every student has a story that is waiting to be told and education is the key to unlocking this story and every child's potential. I look forward to working with you and your child at Axiom Learning to help them unleash their full potential!
Hello, my name is Georgina Coleman, and I graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a BA in Biochemistry. I grew up in Marin County, California, just outside of the great city of San Francisco. I love to play the violin and subsequently went to a school in Berkeley that built its academic curriculum around music. At Mount Holyoke, I was very fortunate to spend time abroad exploring my passions and learning about biochemistry and medicine while at Oxford which prepared me to assist on a medical mission to Anshun, China, to help children with cleft palates. I have been tutoring for over eight years, focusing primarily on math and science. I am very active in my spare time and enjoy training for half marathons and skiing. I love learning and look forward to sharing this love with your child and your family!
Hello there! My name is Jessica French and I’m very excited to work with you and your family at Axiom. I graduated magna cum laude from New York University with a BA in Linguistics and Photography. My interests were varied and I felt the world was my playground so I worked and traveled to find what would truly be my passion. I quickly realized that I loved teaching and working with people from other cultures. I’ve taught in a number of diverse settings from a Tourism & Hospitality school in Kunming, China, where I taught conversational English to future tour guides, to a kitchen in Oakland, California where I led pastry-baking workshops, to developing curricula and leading experiential workshops at a language school in Jakarta, Indonesia. I still love learning and when I’m not teaching I enjoy kickboxing, taking ballet classes (and seeing performances), cooking & baking, and traveling. I believe every child (and adult too!) has a passion for learning somewhere inside them. I look forward to the opportunity to engage and guide your child in finding their own passion!
Hi! My name is Anna Maria Melachrinou. If you are wondering why my last name is hard to pronounce, well... it is Greek! I was born and raised in Athens, Greece, where I loved challenging my three brothers in soccer games. I first discovered my love for teaching at the age of 6 when I decided to teach my 3-year-old brother how to write numbers. Playing teacher became my favorite game and when Nick entered the 1st grade I was not surprised that he was the star of the class! I came to the US seeking a strong college education and received it at Tufts University, where I fell in love with the philosophy of education and spent countless of hours analyzing the educational writings of great thinkers like Plato and Rousseau. I recently completed my master's degree in education and neuroscience from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where I designed curricula on fostering flexible, creative and independent thinking. I have worked with students of all ages - teaching philosophy through storytelling to young children, helping teenagers with stress management, and coaching Harvard graduate students in leadership practices. I deeply care about my students' happiness and success in the classroom and in life. I am very excited to get to know your child and embark on a learning journey!
Hi, I'm Sofia Tancredi! I love to learn and teach just about anything, from knot tying to neuroscience. I was lucky to get to indulge this love at Harvard University, earning highest honors in the Literature department and a secondary field in Mind, Brain, Behavior, and spending my summers mentoring Boston area teens and sharing my love of exploring as a travel writer for a guidebook on Northern Italy. During my family's 10+ moves as a child that spanned 3 countries and 3 languages, I developed flexibility and exposure to the innumerable ways people think and approach the world. At Axiom, I get to apply this understanding every day in helping students harness the way they learn best and get engaged with the subject they are learning. From reading and writing to math to test prep, meeting my students’ unique strengths, goals, and interests makes any subject endlessly new and exciting. When not at the center, you can find me rock climbing, writing short stories, or practicing something new on the piano. I can't wait to support your student in surpassing their expectations!
Hi there! My name is Yushailey, but you can call me Ely. I hold a BA in International Business from UiTM, formerly known as Mara Institute of Technology. My career started in the administration offices of brokerage and private investment firms before I had the opportunity to to join the Managing Director's Office of Malaysia’s sovereign investment fund, Khazanah Nasional Berhad. I was extremely excited to be a part of the office and learned a lot during my time there. After 5 years at Khazanah, I was itching for another opportunity to challenge myself and have a more direct impact on the people of Malaysia and decided to join Axiom Learning in 2011 as one of the company's first employees. I knew my work at Axiom would support families and individuals seeking better educational opportunities and that I’d also be learning a lot myself. It has been a joy to help Axiom grow and have such a positive impact on our families. I am excited to continue helping Axiom grow and to help all of our students reach their full potential. When I am not with my Axiom family, I love spending time with my ‘real’ family—my husband and my son, Ali. I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!
Hey everyone, I’m Rebecca Meiller! I grew up near Chicago, IL before heading out to California to attain my degree in Psychology and Communication from UC Davis. From being an instructor at a children’s fitness center, working as a director at a day camp in Germany, to being a teacher’s aide at an elementary school, my love of teaching has been a life-long journey that has spanned many different fields. As an instructor, I believe that each student is unique and deserves to experience a learning environment that best suits their goals and abilities. Further, my love of psychology and understanding how the brain works, motivates my deep interest in education and helping others succeed. When I’m not teaching at Axiom Learning, I enjoy travelling, exploring new places, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. I can’t wait to meet and work with you and your child!
Howdy all! My name is Nate Zieg and I am stoked to lend my energy to the Bay Area's Axiom Learning team! I've lived all over the United States and even Europe, but most immediately I called San Diego my home. The beaches were warm, the sun shined bright, and the waves were pristine, but now I've thrown on my thickest wetsuit to come surf the beaches of Northern California! I graduated from UC Davis with a major in International Relations with a focus in Environmental Studies, People, and Nationalities. Before I found my awesome new home with Axiom Learning, I was a Tour Guide and Public Advisor at UC Davis. The respect I witnessed within the classroom from my educators was what really helped me excel moving forward and I want to give that same positive attitude, patient understanding, and creative twist that helped me grasp concepts back to my students! My favorite subjects to teach are Spanish, Literature, Sciences, and History, but I don't shy away from Math nor Test / College Prep either! Outside of work and all things learning, I love anything I can do in the water such as surfing, swimming, and diving, but I also love to cook as well as read, learn, and get lost in the fantastic worlds of books like Lord of the Rings and Don Quixote!
Hello Everyone! My name is Nick Beinor and I'm very excited to be a part of the Axiom Learning team. I grew up in a small, more-cows-than-people kind of town called Sutton, Massachusetts before attending Boston College where I earned my B.A. in History. My specific area of study was with a focus on the "Long Nineteenth Century" – the 125 years between the French Revolution and the First World War which, despite its name, is a really thrilling era. I was fortunate enough to have been able to publish a book about this period, and am further pursuing my passion for this topic at Harvard University where I am working towards my M.A in History. When not working with students or attending classes, I can be found pursuing my other great passion – music: either with the Boston College Marching Band or playing my Euphonium in the community's Symphonic Band. I am very excited to meet you and I look forward to working with your child!
Hi there, my name is Gabi Lieberman, and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to work with your family! Growing up in a family of Japanese, Italian, and Russian descent has allowed me take on many different cultural perspectives. With this in mind, I majored in Creative Writing and East Asian studies at the University of British Columbia, where I pursued a passion in script, fiction, and nonfiction writing which lead to joining a creative writing mentoring program, where I designed and implemented curricula focusing on globally sensitive prose. At the Harvard School of Education, I developed an Educators' Resource that focused on bridging the gap between research and practice using literature in the context of socio-emotional development and perspective-taking. Here at Axiom, I am excited to work with students by utilizing these experiences to help students improve their reading and writing skills and socio-emotional development. While doing so, I work to incorporate the specified sensitivity necessary for each individual to build upon their own metacognitive awareness, contributing to positive growth in both mindset and academics. I look forward to the opportunity to share my passions with you and your family!
Hi! My name is Chelsea Nickerson. I graduated from Colby College with a BA in Biology and Neuroscience and from the Harvard Graduate School of Education with a master's degree in Mind, Brain, and Education. My passion for teaching began at Colby where I was a teaching assistant helping classmates in biology, neuroscience, and chemistry. Between degrees, I spent two years working in neurobiology research at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. While working at Children’s, my favorite part of the job was teaching techniques and skills to new lab members as well as helping peers with their graduate and medical school applications. I also volunteered as a mentor for the Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP) at Harvard Medical School, helping high school students extend their science knowledge and take first steps toward a career in science or medicine. Outside of the academic world, I love listening to and playing music (clarinet, saxophone, and flute), skiing (cross-country and alpine), biking, and other outdoor adventures. I look forward to working with your family at Axiom!
Hello! My name is Kendall Reingold and I graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Tufts University with a B.A. in Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies and Spanish. I fell in love with teaching when I was a high school student, after getting involved with my school's peer tutoring program. Since then, I've worked in educational settings ranging from adult English classes in Spain to running a middle school classroom, where I designed and taught six weeks of intensive social studies through a nonprofit program. I have worked with students of all ages on a variety of subjects, ranging from languages to test prep to math and beyond. The aspect I enjoy most about teaching is the opportunity it provides to work closely with students to help them unlock their maximum potential and motivation. Outside of Axiom, you might find me playing soccer, decorating cakes, or going to concerts. I love helping students find their passion for learning, and I'm really looking forward to working with you and your family!
Hi, I’m Mariam Bashar and I look forward to having your child join us at Axiom Learning where we teach, nurture, love and bring out the best in our students. Born and raised in the United States, I completed my undergraduate degree in pre-medicine with a minor in French. Then I found my calling to conduct research in science and continued my education by earning a Master’s of Cell Physiology from Tufts University. I believe a person should be diverse and well rounded, so I earned another Master’s degree in Islamic Jurisprudence in tropical Malaysia. My teaching “career” started when I was 12 when I volunteered to teach at a pre-school. Since then, I’ve never stopped teaching young souls between the ages of 2 and 70 as I love to help people expand their minds. It gives me great pleasure to watch the world open up to a person who is gaining knowledge. I am a strong proponent of one-on-one education so that I can give my best to my students and help them shine. When I’m not teaching at Axiom, I teach for community service so I can honestly say that teaching is my life!
